pile of books

As a mother of two young children, I know all too well how easy it is to let reading fall by the wayside. Between cooking, cleaning, playing with my kids, and managing a career, it can feel like there’s simply no time for books. But as someone who’s always been passionate about reading, I can attest to the incredible benefits that come with making it a priority. And I believe that these benefits are worth fighting for.

First and foremost, reading books is an excellent way to broaden your horizons. No matter how busy you are or how limited your life experiences may be, books have the power to transport you to new worlds and introduce you to new ideas. Whether you’re reading a novel set in a far-off land or a memoir written by someone with a vastly different background than yours, books can open your mind and help you see things in a new light.

But the benefits of reading go beyond just broadening your horizons. Studies have shown that reading books can also improve your cognitive function and mental health. It is know that reading can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve concentration and focus, and even help prevent age-related cognitive decline.

And let’s not forget about the simple joy that comes with getting lost in a good book. There’s something magical about the feeling of being completely immersed in a story, so much so that you forget about the stresses and worries of everyday life. Reading can be a form of self-care, a way to recharge your batteries and escape from the chaos of the world around you.

Now, I know that it can be hard to find the time to read, especially if you’re not in the habit of doing so. But the key is to make it a priority. Instead of scrolling through social media before bed, try picking up a book instead. Instead of watching TV during your lunch break on weekend, try reading a few pages of a novel. Small changes like these can add up over time and help you develop a habit of reading.

And don’t be afraid to try new things when it comes to reading. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut and only read one type of book or stick to one favorite author, but there’s a whole world of literature out there waiting to be explored. Whether you try a new genre, a different author, or a book recommended by a friend, the more you branch out, the more likely you are to find something you truly love.

So to all the adults out there who feel like they don’t have time for reading, I urge you to reconsider. Reading books can bring so much joy, knowledge, and mental clarity into your life. And with a little effort and dedication, it’s a habit that’s easy to form. So pick up a book today and see where it takes you – you might just be surprised at the benefits that come with it.

As the saying goes, “A book is a gift you can open again and again.” So why not give yourself that gift today?
