Today, the majority of workers in the US are paid by checks or direct deposit into their bank accounts. This means they get a pay stub in hand, which they can use as proof of income for numerous things.
However, if you’re one of the minority who’s paid in cash, you might feel like you’ve hit an obstacle in achieving your life goals. But not to worry, as we’re here to help.
Here are some ways to show proof of income when you only get paid in cash, no checks.
Show Pay Stubs or Invoices
Paying cash to employees and independent contractors is allowed, but paying under the table is not. So if everything’s above board with your employer or client, then you should be receiving either pay stubs or invoices, depending on which kind of worker you are.
This is the easiest way to show proof of income since it’s an official document from your employer or client.
Show Bank Statements
This one might be a little more tricky, especially if you don’t deposit your cash after payment and instead, use it right away.
If you do make deposits after getting paid, then all you have to do is print out your bank statements and highlight your cash deposits. So if you don’t already do this, it might be a good idea to start depositing your cash payments so you have a paper trail.
Ask for a Letter From Your Agency or Clients
This can take a little bit of effort, but can be well worth it since it’s a solid way to prove your income.
Get in touch with your agency or clients and ask them to write a letter of verification for you. It should include the services provided, when you provided them, and how much they paid you.
Generate Your Own Pay Stubs
If you aren’t able to do any of the above, or you just want something extra to help your income proof, you can always generate your own pay stubs.
You can easily make pay stubs with a pay stub generator. All you have to do is fill out the important details, such as when you received the cash, what it was for, and which client gave it to you.
Then, you can either generate a PDF and/or print out these pay stubs to email or give to the appropriate parties.
Do note that this shouldn’t be used as a primary form of proof of income. If it’s the only document you have, you might want to contact a client to get them to sign a letter verifying that your pay stubs are correct. Otherwise, you should use these as a supplementary form for proving your income.
