‘Bored in the house and I’m in the house bored’ – if you’ve been on TikTok these days, then you should definitely know this tune. Unfortunately, innocent lyrics have become a reality for millions of people as the world went into global lockdown.
However, it doesn’t have to be this way. There are plenty of things that you can do to stop the boredom. If you want to find out what those are, all you have to do is keep reading. So without any further ado, let’s get into.
Organize a movie (or series) marathon
Everyone has movies or TV series that they always wanted to watch, but never had time due to school, work or other responsibilities. Well, now it’s the perfect time to do it. There are so many to choose from that everyone is bound to find something for themselves. Plus, since the movie theatres are closed, many distributors are actually releasing the long-awaited movies, such as Birds on Prey, earlier on digital platforms.
Here are some of the things that you might want to watch when you feel like doing a movie marathon:
- all Spiderman movies
- the entire Star Wars franchise
- all the movies in the Marvel cinematic universe
- all Harry Potter movies
If you are not really in the mood for a movie, but for a series, here are some that you might find interesting, and are available on Netflix:
- Game of Thrones
- Orange is The New Black
- Money Heist
- The Witcher
- Stranger Things
You can make the movie night even more interesting by displaying them on a wall by using a projector. If you don’t have one, but would love to, you can always check the rankings at Best Budget – they will tell you which ones are both good in quality and affordable.
Start Reading a Book
Just like there are movies that you didn’t have time to watch, you probably also have books that you were planning to read, but something always got in the way. Even if you don’t have any in mind, there are so many great books that not reading them would be a crime.
Let’s start with the classics – ‘The Scarlet Letter’ by Nathaniel Hawthorne, ‘Taming of the Shrew’ by William Shakespeare or ‘Paradise Lost’ by John Milton are just a few of thousands of classics that are worth reading. The best part? You don’t have to have a physical book in your hand – you can download it from the internet, or rent it from a virtual library.
If you don’t think that classics are for you, you can always reach for books that were your favourites when you were a child – surely reading them will bring back many memories from your youth, and you can spend your afternoon reminiscing about the past.
Clean Your House
Remember how you were always putting off cleaning and reorganizing your closet just because you didn’t have time to do it? Well, now you don’t have such an excuse. Contrary to what some people might think, it actually can be a very fun activity – especially finding things that you forgot you even had.
If you have a family, you can always get them to help you – divide the responsibilities, so that all of you will be doing something. You might not even realize how much fun cleaning brings to some kids.
Cook Some Dinner (or Breakfast)
It’s never too late to learn how to cook, or expand your knowledge with a few new recipes – there are so many that you can try a new one few times a day for a year, and you still wouldn’t be able to test all of them.
Just like cleaning your house, cooking can also become a family activity. There are many very easy recipes that can be done either by the kids themselves or with a little bit of help from your side.
Also, if you ever wanted to become a vegetarian or a vegan, being in global lockdown is actually a great opportunity to do it, as you will be able to slowly taste many types of food, and decide which ones you like the best. This way, after all of this is over, you will be able to quickly prepare your favorite meals.
The Bottom Line
While being in a global lockdown probably doesn’t sound like the most exciting thing in the world (and it definitely isn’t) there are many ways in which you can entertain yourself and not die out of boredom. The ones that we listed above are just the tip of the iceberg.
No matter what you decide to do, you need to keep in mind that a global lockdown is not something that happens every day – it’s a very rare, challenging situation, not only for people stuck at home but also for entrepreneurs who have to keep their businesses closed due to the current events. This is why staying inside is extremely important.
For now, the only thing that we can say is – Good luck, stay safe and practice social distancing!
