Gnats are small and extremely annoying two-winged flying insects that can drive you nuts if you don’t know how to get rid of them the right way. Although gnats are reasonably harmless, they carry some parasites and can spread some diseases in both humans and livestock too. Do the basics to prevent your gnat problem from occurring in the first place, by covering your food properly with a lid, keeping your fresh fruits in your refrigerator, throwing away your rotten fruits immediately and avoiding overwatering your plants too. In addition, planting ginger root helps to prevent gnats a great deal. So, the answer is here with four handy tips to get rid of gnats in house or outside properly.
Use vegetable oil
Using vegetable oil is one easy and very effective way to get rid of gnats fast. It works because the gnats are attracted to the vegetable oil and when they come to feed on it, they just fall in, drown and eventually die. Simply pour some vegetable oil into a small bowl and place it next to where your gnats are most active. Make sure to replace it with fresh vegetable oil daily for best result or until your gnats are entirely gone.
Use bleach
If you are dealing with gnats in and around your kitchen or bathroom sink, then using bleach is an excellent option to try. If you want to get rid of your gnats quickly, fill your kitchen or bathroom sink with some hot water and add 1 cup of bleach into it. Now drain the entire water and bleach mixture so that it can kill all the gnats in your drains. Repeat this process daily if you can or until your gnats are gone.
Use honey
Honey is another great option to use if you want to get rid of your gnats’ problem naturally and fast. Gnats are naturally attracted to the sweet smell of honey. So when they land on it when they come to feed on it, they will eventually get trapped in the sticky honey making it impossible for them to get out, until they ultimately die. Just take a small paper plate and smear some honey all over it, making sure to place it next to any gnat prone areas. Replace the plate with a new one daily for best results or until your gnats are entirely gone.
Use apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is another very effective way to get rid of your gnats fast since gnats are naturally attracted to the smell of apple cider vinegar. You will use it to make a trap. Simply fill up a jar about half with some apple cider vinegar and cover the top with some plastic wrap, making sure to poke a small hole in the middle where your gnats can get in but not out, they will eventually just fall into the apple cider vinegar, where they will drown and die. Replace the jar with fresh apple cider vinegar every day if you can or until your gnats are gone for good.
If you can’t seem to get rid of them yourself, or they keep coming back to the house, it is better to call your local pest control operator to inspect the house, and possibly stop them from infesting your home.
