Keeping your home clean and tidy at all time is very important. It’s more than just being house proud. A clean house is less likely to harbor dangerous germs and allergens that could be detrimental to your and your family’s health. The current COVID-19 pandemic highlights this issue and the importance of disinfecting regularly.
It’s not enough to wash your hands regularly, you also need to make sure your home is clean as well. Here’s how.
Use The Right Products
There are several key ingredients you need when cleaning your home thoroughly. The first is some good quality sanitary bins from a reputable supplier of sanitary bins Sydney. These are essential to ensure sanitary waste is disposed of properly and not touched by other people or left open to attract pests.
You also need disposable gloves, you’ll want to throw them away after you’ve finished cleaning. A face mask can also be beneficial, especially if you suffer from allergic reactions to allergens. Finally, you’ll want a good-quality multi-purpose disinfectant spray and disposable or washable rags.
Don’t be tempted to reuse the rags without washing them. Bacteria can live on these surfaces for a surprisingly long time. A hot wash will kill them and allow you to use the rags again.
Where To Start
It’s a good idea to start upstairs and work your way down and out of the house. You’ll want to use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to clean all the floors. Make sure you have the right attachment depending on whether you’re vacuuming carpet or hardwood floors.
Dusting
The first stage is to wipe down all the shelves, countertops, and other areas where dust and debris collect. You’ll want to do this first and use a microfiber cloth. These cloths attract dust but some will still float down to the floor. That’s okay because you’ll get them in the next stage.
After dusting all the areas possible you’ll want to use disinfectant spray and a damp rag. While you don’t necessarily need to do this on your bookshelves, you should do it on all food preparation areas and in the bathroom.
Disinfecting everything is important to make sure germs are killed and you and your family stay safe.
Brushing
It is possible to brush before vacuuming. Using a microfiber brush head you’ll find the dust and dirt are attracted to the brush. This dramatically reduces the amount of dust that can be sent into the air when you vacuum.
Once you’ve finished brushing you can run the vacuum over the same space to ensure all the dirt is picked up.
Mopping
After brushing you can mop any hardwood floors. Don’t use a wet mop, it should be damp to avoid damaging the floor.
If you have carpets then use a wet vacuum to wash them thoroughly, and a good detergent.
Soft Furnishings
Any soft furnishings that can be removed should be put into the washing machine, wash them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Don’t forget to wipe over all electronics with a disinfectant wipe. Then, step back and enjoy your clean home.
