black sneakers

The sneaker has always been a highly versatile footwear option. Whether you’re playing basketball, going for a run, or hitting up the mall, there are cool sneakers that’ll suit your tastes.

But what sneaker fashions are trending right now? Keep reading to find out what sneaks are in style this year.

1. Chunky Soles/’90s Dad Shoe

The first thought when you look at these sneakers is probably not how cool they look. They are, after all, nearly exact replicas of the shoes our Dads wore in the ’90s. But, the Dad shoe remains a top trend going in 2020.

The chunky trainer made a comeback in 2018, and it looks like it’s here to stay. These high fashion sneakers are available from big brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci. For the more budget-conscious shopper, check out options from Skechers or Zara.

2. Unusual Textures

Technology has finally reached a point where almost anything is possible in the realm of fashion. Some high-fashion buyers believe that the next big trend in sneakers is uppers with unusual textures.

Take a look at the Air Max 1 Golf Grass from Nike, and you’ll see what I mean. These kicks are made with furry green fabric that looks like astroturf. They make a statement, and isn’t that what fashion is about?

3. White on White on White

White everything might seem like a bad idea at first. This is especially true if you have children or are unable to take a sip of coffee without first dribbling on yourself. But a sneaker trend that’s not going anywhere is the color stark white.

Fashion icons like Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid have been spotted more than once in white sneakers. They’re clean, crisp, and can bring together an outfit. A bonus is that white shoes will match everything in your closet, too.

4. Going Where No Sneaker Has Gone Before

Technology is affecting every facet of our lives. The fashion world is no exception. Technological advances in footwear affect how we make and wear sneakers.

Take Nike, for example. Their Adapt BB sneaker connects to your smartphone and can even lace itself.

Adidas is on the technology train too, rolling out their Futurecraft 4D tech. This technology uses 3D printers to create soles that provide more support and cushioning.

If our homes can be fully autonomous with smart tech, why not our sneakers, too? Every millennial will soon want a pair of high-tech kicks in their closet. Websites like Kickscrew will have the hottest new tech-ified sneakers as soon as they hit the shelves.

5. Neon Throwbacks

The return of ’90s fashion has already brought acid wash jeans, bright windbreakers, and velvet back on the scene. Why stop there? If the ’90s Dad clunky shoe fad doesn’t speak to you, maybe the neon colors from that era will?

Neon colors were a big hit in the ’80s and ’90s. The 2019 revival isn’t quite as out-there as previous decades but is more subtle instead. Your next pair of sneakers might have neon stripes or accents.
